I’ve recently come across the motherlode of photos from the 1909 Atlanta Speedway races, which I wrote about in my Death of the Merry Widow post. I’ve updated that entry with several high quality shots of the burning wreckage. And I’m currently working on a new post that will cover the event as a whole, as well as the drama that followed, using the archival photos to create a timeline.
I’ve also updated the From Famine to Feast: Photos of Asa Candler, Jr. post to include a few high quality shots from the 1909 archive. Photos of this fellow are hard to come by, and the ones I have are mostly grainy scans of newsprint. So you can imagine how excited I was when I realized I recognized his face in so many shots.
That’s it, just two updates. I’ll leave you with a photo that I ran through Algorithmia’s photo colorization tool. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty dang impressive anyway. This is a photo of Buddie with his driver seated at the wheel of the Merry Widow herself. Photographic records of the Widow are virtually nonexistent, so even just this snippet is a rare find.
Get you a photo that makes you as happy as this one makes me.
